Scars.. I definitely have a few that have been with me for a longtime and every time I look at them I’m reminded of that fall down the oak tree or that embarrassing tumble off my bicycle. Let’s just say most of these unwanted markings are due to events such as burns, cuts and even surgical incisions. Although most scars are not going to disappear completely there are ways to greatly reduce their appearance. This is also true about stretchmarks.
Coconut oil has been used for centuries to help diminish the appearance of scars and stretch marks. Once your scab has fallen off, that marks the time to begin using coconut oil. As for stretch marks, coconut oil can be used at any time and is safe to use during pregnancy. Its ultra-nourishing qualities can even prevent stretch marks from occurring in the first place. Coconut oil has helped reduce the darkness and seriousness of many people’s scars and stretch marks due to its antioxidant-rich nature as well as anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial qualities.
As stated in my Coconut Oil to Treat Wrinkles post, the short molecular structure of coconut oil allows it to be easily absorbed through the skin and helps retain the skin’s elasticity. Its super hydrating properties moisturize, replenish lost vitamins, and protect the skin from cell damaging free radicals; thus, diminishing the appearance of scars and stretch marks. So what do you have to lose? Lather up those unsightly scars or unwanted stretch marks, I bet you’ll notice a difference.
